About

Highland Cemetery in unincorporated Jackson County, Missouri was the area’s first cemetery for the African-American community. Founded in 1909, it is the resting place for many of Kansas City’s notables, including Bennie Moten, Julia Lee, Major N. Clark Smith, and Charles Watts.

I started this blog to serve as a jumping-off point for anyone who seeks information on, or wants to discuss this important landmark.
